Rexorex

Building and Launching a Competitive Mini-Games Platform

React JavaScript Supabase PostgreSQL Vercel PostHog Cloudflare

Overview:
Rexorex is a web-based competitive mini-games platform that I designed, developed, deployed, and continue to iterate on as an independent product. The platform focuses on short, engaging challenges designed to encourage competition, replayability, and sharing.

Key Achievements

  • Full-Stack Development: Designed and developed the Rexorex application using React and JavaScript, creating reusable components and game flows for an interactive browser-based experience.
  • Game Development: Built the Button Timer Challenge around a multi-round gameplay system, including prediction screens, scoring, results, and replay flows.
  • Leaderboard System: Integrated Supabase and PostgreSQL to manage scores, authentication, player profiles, and ranked leaderboard data.
  • Production Deployment: Deployed Rexorex to Vercel and configured Cloudflare for DNS, security, and production traffic management.
  • Product Ownership: Owned the product from concept through development, deployment, analytics, user acquisition, and continuous iteration based on real user behavior.

Technical Architecture

  • Frontend: Built the application using React with reusable components for gameplay, landing pages, result screens, sharing, and leaderboard experiences.
  • Backend & Database: Used Supabase for authentication, PostgreSQL data storage, row-level security, score management, and leaderboard queries.
  • Authentication: Implemented user authentication and profile management to support persistent player data and competitive scoring.
  • Infrastructure: Deployed the production application through Vercel while using Cloudflare for DNS and additional security configuration.
  • Analytics: Integrated PostHog to measure visitors, engagement, retention, and user behavior throughout the product funnel.

Engineering Challenges & Solutions

  • Mobile Compatibility: Identified and addressed browser-specific issues affecting the gaming experience, including compatibility challenges on Safari and iPhone devices.
  • Database Security: Configured Supabase Row Level Security policies to control access to player and leaderboard data.
  • Leaderboard Performance: Designed database queries and views to efficiently retrieve player rankings and best scores.
  • Content Security: Configured production security headers and Content Security Policy rules while troubleshooting third-party scripts and Cloudflare integrations.
  • Production Debugging: Diagnosed deployment, DNS, SSL, browser, and security configuration issues across Vercel and Cloudflare.

Product Development & User Experience

  • Game Flow: Designed the experience around short gameplay sessions with multiple rounds, prediction mechanics, scoring, and results.
  • Sharing: Developed result and sharing experiences intended to make player performance easy to share across social platforms.
  • Mobile-First Thinking: Optimized the experience around users playing quick games directly from their phones and social media.
  • Iteration: Used analytics and observed user behavior to identify areas where gameplay, onboarding, and engagement could be improved.

Analytics & Growth

  • Behavior Tracking: Implemented product analytics to understand how users enter Rexorex, interact with games, and return to the platform.
  • Retention Analysis: Began tracking returning users and engagement patterns to evaluate whether players continue coming back to the platform.
  • Social Acquisition: Experimented with Instagram content, reels, hooks, and community engagement to drive traffic to Rexorex.
  • Data-Driven Iteration: Used early traffic and engagement data to guide product decisions instead of relying solely on assumptions about user behavior.

Product Ownership

  • End-to-End Ownership: Responsible for the product concept, technical architecture, implementation, deployment, analytics, and growth experimentation.
  • Rapid Experimentation: Continuously tested different approaches to gameplay, content, acquisition, and user engagement.
  • Technical & Product Decisions: Balanced engineering considerations with user experience and business goals when deciding what to build next.

Results & Ongoing Development

Rexorex is an actively evolving product. Rather than treating the initial launch as the finish line, I use real-world analytics and user behavior to identify opportunities for improving engagement, retention, gameplay, and acquisition.

The project demonstrates my ability to take an idea from concept to a live production application while owning both the engineering and product sides of the process.
